Description
Zauberflote was a beautiful dance emporium in Berlin that would entertain both gay men and lesbian women. There were three separate floors, each floor could pack in about 1,500 partygoers. The first floor was a dancehall that was strictly for lesbians. It was known as the "American Dance Palace" that would play loud and aggressive American Jazz. The second and third floors, known as the "Florida Dance Hall" and "Oriental Casino" respectively, were lounge areas exclusive to gay men. Often they would play german folk dance music that led to square dancing. On Monday afternoons an exclusive club of Jewish girls would meet at the Zauberflote, every September they had an annual ball.
