About

Queer Berlin from Weimar to Today

This project is developed from the work of the Winter 2025 "Queer and Kinky German Culture" course at Knox College, taught by Dr. Brandy E. Wilcox.

To develop these maps, students worked with the "Steve Jones Collection" from the Knox College Archives to identify, catalogue, and develop entries on queer institutions and meeting spaces in post-unification Berlin, Germany. This archive work, combined with online and database research, is presented here with a series of maps of Berlin beginning in the Weimar Republic and ending in the modern day.

This is an ongoing project and we are accepting contributions of queer Berlin institutions from the early twentieth century through today. Please reach out to Dr. Wilcox (bewilcox@knox.edu) for more information and access to the submission form.

Many thanks to the Knox College Archives--and lead archivist Joseph Taylor--as well as the Abolition Lab and Dr. Jennifer Andrella for the support in creating this series of maps.
