Mikado

Title

Mikado

Subject

Transgender Club

Description

Mikado was a famous club where costume balls were held for trans (and cross dressing) women. Outside the club was also a known location for sex workers to wait and meet up with people. One of the first crossdressers at Mikado was someone called Sir Willibald von Sadler-Grün (better known as Baroness) where she arrived at the club “done to the nines like Marie Antoinette”, and sang a song written by a closeted German diplomat.

Under this source there are two still pictures and one audio file.
The first picture is an image of the Mikado Bar [black and white, chairs, tables, pictures on the wall].
The second picture is an image of “The Baroness” who sung while crossdressed in this institution [black and white picture of a person who is crossdressed as a woman in regal costume, much like Marie Antoinette].
The audio file is a recording of the song sung by the Baroness, sung here by Lotte Lehmann in 1926.
