<text>Das Institut für Sexualwissenschaft was the world's first queer gender and sexuality research institute. It was founded by sexologist, physician, and queer advocate Magnus Hirschfeld in 1919, and operated until it was ransacked by the Nazi affiliated German Student Union on May 6, 1933. This was the site of the first Nazi book burning, where the majority of the institute’s research was destroyed. The demographic base encompassed any variety of queer and queer allied clients seeking resources for education, sexual health and wellness, queer activism, and some forms of medical care. The institute’s services included sex education, counseling, and some of the earliest forms of trans healthcare and gender affirming surgery for trans women in particular.</text>

<text>Eisenherz Buchladen (originally Prinz Eisenherz Buchladen) is a bookstore founded in 1978 by members of the new gay movement emerging at the time. The store functioned as a bookstore as well as a meeting place for queer people, often young gay men who were just starting to come out. Over the years the store has expanded its merchandise from mostly gay literature, to lesbian, and trans literature as well as academic journals, magazines, childrens literature, DVDs and postcards. The store holds public readings, and also has a gallery space which exhibits queer art. Eisenherz Buchladen is Berlin's first gay bookshop, and one of Europe's oldest surviving gay bookshops. The store also aided to the building of queer culture/community in Berlin. </text>

<text>Galerie Janssen is a long running media store in Berlin's city West, with a focus on the theme of "man in art". The store was founded by Volker Janssen who opened a publishing company of the same name. In the earlier years the store sold mainly paintings, figures, and books but has shifted to mainly electronic media, and posters, among other merchandise. Galerie Janssen is important as being a historically significant outlet for gay-interest DVDs. GayCities describes Galerie Janssen as "Germany's first purveyor of erotic gay imagery" </text>
