It was previously known as "Westend-Ressource" during the German Empire and was renamed to "Gründers Festsäle" after the owners. It is unclear how it came to be known as Toppkeller. In 1924, "The Pyramid Lottery Club" began meeting at Toppkeller and is what established the institution's reputation as a lesbian meeting place. Two of the important organizers were known as the "Zigeunerlotte" and the "Rheinische Käthe." In 1929, Willy Dubrau, an innkeeper, took over Toppkeller from the founders. According to the Goethe Institute, "Berlin singer Claire Waldoff would sport a men’s suit whilst performing her political songs on stage to a crowd including the likes of dancer Anita Berber and even Marlene Dietrich." All in all, it was a famous meeting place for lesbian people "who wanted to live out their sexuality." It has also been known as Westend-Ressource or Gründers Festsäle in the past.</text>

It was known as the "American Dance Palace" that would play loud and aggressive American Jazz. The second and third floors, known as the "Florida Dance Hall" and "Oriental Casino" respectively, were lounge areas exclusive to gay men. Often they would play german folk dance music that led to square dancing. On Monday afternoons an exclusive club of Jewish girls would meet at the Zauberflote, every September they had an annual ball.</text>

Located at Friedrichstrasse 218, lectures on hygiene were common as members of the community highly valued healthy practices. Everyone who took part in the program referred to each other as the familiar form "du". Everyone was welcome regardless of income, ethnicity, age, sexuality, etc. Members were tithed five percent of their income as dues while the unemployed attended for free. However kind and accepting people were, the man behind it all - Adolf Koch - was incredibly strict. He was incredibly punctual and had a very cold demeanour, and his lectures were always on very serious and tough topics. The naked form was not seen in a sexual light in this school, but outsiders found their activities erotic. </text>

<text>The Monocle-Bar was one of three prominent transgender-inclusive bars in Weimar era Berlin, alongside its peers Silhouette and Mikado Bar. Remembered of those three as being popular with actors, the Monocle, along with its peers, rose to popularity later into its years of operation as the much more popular trans-inclusive Eldorado grew a reputation for pandering to heterosexual thrill-seekers. The Monocle especially was liked by those who felt the scene was becoming too crowded due to its "militantly gynocentric" attitude: as recounted in Mel Gordon's Voluptuous Panic, "A hefty female transvestite at the door [...] holding a riding crop in one transgendered hand [...] made certain males did not enter." However, like many other popular clubs at the time, Nazis were known to have made their way inside - most notably Wolf-Heinrich Graf von Helldorff, who was ousted from his position as a head SA officer after it was found he frequented the Monocle. Members of its cabaret act recall him, drunk, heckling them with requests to play the Horst-Wessel-Lied.</text>

<text>Styled like a sprawling art deco living room where guests must take their shoes off at the door, Kwia Berlin is a deeply unique gay bar, and a significant step away from the Berlin clubbing scene of both the 1920s and the 2020s alike. Branding itself a "queer ambient bar", Kwia draws from Japanese "Jazz Kissa" cafes, in which jazz is played at a listening volume, meant to be appreciated rather than used as background noise. While Kwia's focus is not solely on jazz, it remains deeply on music - between its far more mellow vibes than other clubs and this musical focus, Kwia boasts a surprisingly wide range of clientele. Music fans stay in the front room, where talking is mostly prohibited, whilst those there for the atmosphere can venture into the back room, where drinks and food are served and talking is fair game.</text>
